Paul Martin Newby is Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of North Carolina, having first been elected in 2004. Justice Newby is an Adjunct Professor at Campbell University School of Law, where he teaches courses on state constitutional law and appellate practice. He is also the co-author of The North Carolina State Constitution with History and Commentary (2d ed. 2013) with Professor John V. Orth of the University of North Carolina School of Law. The North Carolina Bar Association honored Justice Newby in 2011 with its Citizen Lawyer Award, and in 2012 he received its John McNeill Smith, Jr. Award, recognizing his work in the area of constitutional rights and responsibilities. In recognition of his professional service, Justice Newby received the James Iredell Award and an Honorary Doctor of Laws from Southern Wesleyan University.

Justice Newby actively participates in the North Carolina Bar Association. He is currently a member of the Justice and Judiciary Committee (2018-present). In the past, Justice Newby has served on the Strategic Planning & Emerging Trends Committee (2015-2018), the Appellate Practice Section Council (2015-2016), International Law Section Council (2010-2015), the Technology Advisory Committee (2005-2011), the Litigation Council (2005-2011), and as Vice President (2008-2009).

Dr. Marty McCaffrey is a Professor of Pediatrics at UNC Chapel Hill in the Division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. He is a retired Captain in the US Navy and served as the Director of Neonatal Care at the Naval Medical Center San Diego and the Consultant to the US Navy Surgeon General for Neonatology. Dr. McCaffrey is the Director of the Perinatal Quality Collaborative of North Carolina (PQCNC or “PICNIC”) which has conducted 11 statewide quality improvement projects across the North Carolina. The mission of the PQCNC is to make North Carolina the best place to give birth and be born. He is also the Co-Chair of the CDC’s National Network of Perinatal Quality Collaboratives. Dr. McCaffrey also has a strong interest in the care of infants and children, and the support of families with challenging prenatal diagnoses. As a member of the International Trisomy Alliance Board and the Be Not Afraid Board he offers significant medical and emotional support to families dealing with difficult diagnoses in their unborn and born children. He has most recently published on the topic of trisomies in the September 2016 issue of the American Journal of Medical Genetics.

He is the Managing Director and Senior Partner of the Private Wealth division at Blue Trust in Charlotte, overseeing the office’s growth and day-to-day operations. He works closely with families, individuals, and businesses to build tailored financial plans—integrating financial planning, investment management, and trust services—with the goal of helping clients experience clarity and leave a lasting legacy Blue Trust. Roger published Financial Faithfulness: Unlocking Scripture to Avoid the Distraction of Money in 2013, releasing a fully revised edition in 2022

Dr. Michael M. Haglund, MD, PhD, MACM, FAANS

He is the Duke Surgery Distinguished Professor of Neurosurgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Neurobiology, and Global Health, serving as Vice Chair for Education and Program Training Director at Duke University School of Medicine He founded and leads the Duke Division of Global Neurosurgery and Neurology (DGNN) and co-directs Uganda’s first neurosurgery residency program at Mulago National Referral Hospital, significantly expanding neurosurgical capacity in East Africa.

Paul "Skip"Stam

A longtime attorney based in Apex, North Carolina, where he has practiced law since 1976 with a focus on estate administration, estate law, and constitutional matters. He served sixteen years in the North Carolina House of Representatives—including roles as Minority Leader, Majority Leader, and Speaker Pro Tempore.

Joe Mitchiner

A seasoned estate planning attorney based in Raleigh, North Carolina, practicing at Mitchiner & Small, PLLC, where he focuses exclusively on wills, trusts, estate planning, probate administration, and related aspects of taxation, business organization, and asset protection. He is also involved with the national Christian Legal Society.

Dr. Lloyd A. Hey

A board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in spine deformities and scoliosis, with over 35–37 years of experience—he earned his M.D. from Harvard Medical School in 1988 and completed his fellowship in adult spinal deformity at Duke University Hospital in 1995. Practicing in Raleigh, Dr. Hey serves patients at Hey Clinic and affiliates with Duke University Hospital.

Dr. Hale Stephenson

A board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist specializing in urogynecology and pelvic reconstructive surgery, practicing in Greenville and affiliated with ECU Health Medical Center. He has over 37 years of experience in this field.

Nathan & Rebekah Wilson

An appellate attorney based in Raleigh, serving as an associate at Fox Rothschild LLP, where he focuses on issues and appeals—particularly in state and federal constitutional law, business litigation, and criminal defense. He earned his law degree from the University of North Carolina and later clerked for Justice Tamara P. Barringer at the North Carolina Supreme Court.

Rebekah is married to Nathan and is also an attorney. She is an associate attorney at Barringer Sasser in Cary, NC, specializing in civil litigation—particularly business and commercial disputes—as well as estate planning and administration.

Christa Evans

Originally from Wilson, North Carolina, Christa is a second-year law student at High Point University School of Law. At school, she serves as the president of the High Point Law Christian Legal Society Chapter. This past summer, she interned with both Justice Tamara P. Barringer at the North Carolina Supreme Court, and Paul “Skip” Stam at Stam Law Firm.

Michael Zhu

Originally from Orange County, California, Michael is a second-year medical student at Duke University School of Medicine. He graduated from Rice University in 2023 with a degree in neuroscience, where he also conducted research on chronic pain and worked as a patient care navigator. He is actively involved in the Triangle Medical & Dental Association.

Dr. Benjamin W. Frush

He earned his M.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed a dual residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he served as chief resident. He currently serves as a Hospital Medicine assistant professor in Duke University’s Department of Medicine. In addition, he is a McDonald-Agape Fellow in Bioethics at Georgetown University’s Kennedy Institute of Ethics, exploring the rich intersection of medicine, theology, and ethics.

Nathaniel C. Parker

An accomplished real estate and land use attorney practicing in Raleigh and Durham, with expertise in zoning, land use approvals, and litigation in both state and federal courts. He earned his J.D. from Washington and Lee University School of Law and currently practices at McCuiston Law Offices.
