About the event
Our annual Friendraiser is our biggest gathering of the year with over 300 people in 2023. Yes, it is a fundraiser, but it is so much more. We want to connect, encourage and challenge. This year we will hear from some local doctors who are involved in TCMDA and will share about the impact of this ministry. The Lord is doing wonderful works around the Triangle and we want to share them with you!
The main purpose of this event is to build up the Body of Christ. If you end the evening having made a new friend, or reconnected with an old one, we are happy. If you are encouraged by a testimony or challenged by the speaker, mission complete. And if you just enjoy a nice evening out in a lovely place with great food, then success has been achieved.
Our awesome speakers, Dr. Corrie Chumpitazi and Dr. Lloyd Hey.

"I’m a pediatric emergency medicine specialist committed to providing high-quality emergency care to ill and injured children. Outside of work, I enjoy exploring all the activities the area has to offer, from lake sports to hiking, and being the biggest fan at sporting events, ballroom dance competitions, and the concerts of my husband and three children."
Dr. Hey is a former adolescent trauma patient, which motivated him to serve as a doctor who would combine engineering and compassion to serve patients. His training includes MIT, Harvard Medical School, Harvard School of Public Health, Harvard Combined Orthopedic Residency Program, Harvard Boston Children’s Hospital Pediatric Orthopedic Chief Residency & Fellowship, and Duke Orthopedic/Neurosurgical Fellowship. He then served on faculty at Duke for nearly 10 years before starting Hey Clinic on the Duke Raleigh campus in 2005 to create a center of excellence for patients with spinal deformities of all ages. For over 30 years, he’s pursued a vision for life-long scoliosis and spine care combined with compassion-driven quality and safety improvement and innovation, always seeking to inspire and improve care with a team approach. Dr. Hey has performed over 6,000 spine surgeries; thousands with spinal deformity. Under Dr. Hey's guidance, experience and leadership, the Hey Clinic team strives to create authentic relationships through a strong focus on patient education, generous appointment times and an emphasis on non-surgical treatments when appropriate.
Dr. Hey is an innovator, pilot, engineer and has served on his local church board. His passion is two-fold, to serve through medicine and to disciple young adults in their faith. Lloyd is a past board member for TCMDA and remains active as a speaker and as a mentor for dozens of students.

What people say about TCMDA
UNC SOM
“I joined TCMDA to find a community of Christians at Duke, and I have found exactly that. Through TCMDA, I have connected with peers at Duke, students at UNC, and faculty. It has made me feel supported to know and connect with fellow Christians in medicine. I know that I have people to turn to and examples of the type of physician and Christian that I want to be, and this has impacted me greatly.”

Duke SOM
TCMDA is a great way for students to strengthen their faith and to learn about the importance of the integration of faith and medicine as they embark on a career in health care.
